PMI Achieves Female Representation Target - 40% of Women in Managerial Positions Globally and 48% in the UAE

The company announced that it has reached its global company-wide target to improve gender balance, ensuring at least 40% female representation in managerial roles by 2022.

In the United Arab Emirates, female representation has reached 43.5% across all grades and 48.3% in managerial roles at PMI’s local affiliate, Phillip Morris Management Services (Middle East) Limited (PMMS), whilst positions held by females within the Management Team are at 32%.

Tarkan Demirbas, Area Vice President Middle East, stated: “I am delighted that our affiliate in the UAE has met and exceeded the global average of women in managerial positions at Phillip Morris Management Services (Middle East) Limited, as achieving gender balance at all levels is one of our top priorities. We have taken decisive actions that supported an increase in the number of women in managerial positions including implementing gender-balanced recruitment, female talent development programs, and introducing new parental leave policies that include options for women to take 135 calendar days of maternity leave with 100% pay or 180 calendar days with 50% pay after the first 90 calendar days of full pay, and for secondary caregivers like fathers, the option to take up to 8 weeks (56 calendar days) of leave with 100% pay.

Silke Muenster, Chief Diversity Officer at PMI, noted: “What gets measured really does get done. This was a whole company effort requiring everyone to take responsibility. I am delighted that we have met our target on time but recognize that we still have a long way to go on our diversity, equity, and inclusion journey. With this in mind, we have our next gender representation target: 35% of women in senior roles by 2025.

The new target—35% of women in senior roles by 2025—demonstrates the company’s desire to continuously improve gender representation.

The company also announced today that it has been recertified as a global EQUAL-SALARY organization for the second time since 2019 by the independent EQUAL-SALARY Foundation. The recertification verifies that PMI continues to pay female and male employees equally for equal work in the more than 90 markets where PMI operates.

The EQUAL-SALARY Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization based in Switzerland. The EQUAL-SALARY certification verifies that organizations have sustainable policies and practices to ensure that they pay their male and female employees equally for equal work.
